What's the difference between a court booking, a public match and a private match?

The three booking types explained, including scores, levels, payment options and why match options are sometimes missing.

Written by Nettla

A Court Booking is a regular booking with no scores or levels. A Public Match is open for any suitable player to find and join. A Private Match is for players you invite. Scores from matches are reported in the app, and padel match scores change your level.

Court Booking

  • A regular booking: "No score reporting or implication on player's levels."

  • You can invite friends or share a link.

  • No level needed.

Public Match

  • Other players can find your match under Public matches and join.

  • Everyone pays their own part.

  • You choose which levels can join and whether the level range is Required or Suggested.

  • If not enough players join in time, the match is cancelled automatically and everyone is refunded.

Private Match

  • Only players you invite, or who have your link, can join.

  • You can choose Pay your part or Pay full cost.

  • You set the level range in the same way as a public match.

  • A private match where everyone pays their part can be cancelled automatically if not enough players join. One paid in full is never cancelled automatically.

Why can't I see Public Match or Private Match?

  • Matches are only available for padel and tennis.

  • The club must offer matches.

  • Close to the start time, only Private Match paid in full is offered, because there isn't time for others to join.

Good to know

  • You need a level in the sport to create or join a padel or tennis match. See "Do I need a Nettla level?".

  • You can't change a court booking into a match after booking. You can turn your own private match (where players pay their part) into a public match: open it and tap Turn into a public match. This can't be undone.

  • Tennis scores are recorded, but only padel scores change your level.
